This is Something Every Google Pixel 7 Pro Owner Needs to Know.

Pixels are the flagship phone model for Google. While they aren’t as popular or widely used as Samsungs and iPhones, they do have one thing that truly sets them apart. I’m not talking about device specifications either. Google Pixels have really amazing warranty programs in place.

Google really stands by their phones and when they mess something up they truly do their best to correct it. They have a handful of extended warranty programs on their phones and I have seen people come into the shop wanting to pay out of pocket what is COMPLETELY covered under a google extended warranty.

Warranty? What Does that Mean?

Manufacturers aren’t perfect. Whether it be Apple producing overheating phones, or Samsung producing phones with defective charge ports; there are mistakes everywhere. Some companies choose to rectify them by replacing the phones, or replacing the malfunctioning part. Some companies ignore it all together.

Typically when you purchase a phone brand new it comes with a 1-year manufacturers warranty. Typically these cover any defects aside from physical damage. Your battery is starting to expand? Covered. Your screen stopped responding to touch? Covered. Your phone doesn’t charge anymore? Covered.

After that first year is over though you are out of luck if you don’t purchase insurance or extra coverage through a third party company. This is where extended warranties come into play though.

Extended warranties are where companies realize there is a certain defect with their product so they extend their warranty (typically for at least another few years) to cover the defect that they have been producing. Now most of the time it’s due to a class action lawsuit but that is neither here nor there.

Google’s Pixel 7 Pro Extended Warranty.

Now with all of that preamble out of the way let me tell you the important thing about Google’s Pixel 7 Pro warranty.

Due to the way the back-glasses were manufactured, and how the camera lenses protrude convexly out of the back they crack and break VERY EASILY. So much so, that a class action lawsuit for “Google Pixel 7 Spontaneous Camera Glass Shatter” was investigated. The results of that lawsuit are very clear as now every backglass is covered under an extended warranty.

You heard me right. If your camera lens is shattered for your Google Pixel 7 Pro you can get it replaced for FREE under Google’s extended warranty REGARDLESS of when you bought it.

This extends further than that though. While the lawsuit happens to be solely about the camera lenses themselves, the camera lenses cannot be replaced without replacing the whole back glass. What this really means is that if you manage to crack your back glass but not your camera lenses you can literally just break your camera lenses and your back glass will be replaced for FREE.

I am not just fluffing this up either, I really mean everything that I just said. The shop where I work handles Google in-warranty claims and we are literally NOT ALLOWED to charge customers for a back glass if their lens is cracked.

On the down low we’ve done a couple of customers a favor by breaking their camera lens and replacing their back glass for free rather than them paying out of pocket to have it replaced.

I Have a Broken Pixel 7 Pro Back Glass, What do I do Now?

There are a few different options for you now that you’ve identified that your device is covered under warranty. You can:

  • Find a Google certified repair shop,
  • Contact Google for a replacement,
  • Contact your phone carrier for a replacement,
  • Contact Google for a mail-in repair.

I would suggest trying to find a certified repair shop first and foremost. This is going to be your quickest resolution as you should be getting your phone back within a couple hours to a couple of days.

If you have no certified shops near you I would then try contacting your mobile carrier for a device replacement. I’ve found it can be easier to get a device replacement from your carrier than the manufacturer, as long as you’ve purchased that phone through said carrier.

From there if you have no luck you just have to contact Google themselves either for a repair or replacement. Typically they attempt to do a repair first but you may be able to convince them for a straight up replacement if you complain enough (Not that I’m suggesting you to be rude to the employees, I’m suggesting to be more suggestive towards a replacement if that’s what you’d prefer).

Final Remarks.

I think the programs that Google has in place for their extended warranties are super great (even if the consumers had to wring it out of them with a lawsuit). There are more extended warranties with Google too, not just including the Pixel 7 Pro. There’s one for the Pixel 4XL, and an absolutely INSANE one for the Pixel 5A. There are also plenty of others for different companies like Samsung and Apple too.
