Google Pixel 5A; Unpacking the Unbelievable Extended Warranty from Google.

The Google Pixel 5a is Google’s budget-friendly powerhouse, there is one fatal flaw in it’s design though, the motherboard was manufactured with faulty parts. This guide is to help you understand understanding and maximizing the benefits of the extended Pixel 5a warranty. I’ll even explain the process of what it’s like in our Google certified shop.

Understanding the Pixel 5a Warranty Extensions:

Google, recognizing the importance of customer satisfaction, has extended the warranty for the Pixel 5a (this was mostly due to a class action lawsuit). Before diving into the solutions, ensure you understand the terms of your warranty extension. This extension is an extra year from the date of purchase for your phone and it covers literally everything. Let me break it down for you.

Common Pixel 5a Warranty Problems:

The extended warranty offered by Google for the 5A is actually crazy. It covers issues like:

  • Hardware Malfunctions: If your screen has no display or your phone wont turn on (very common)
  • Battery Drain Issues: Rapid battery depletion not linked to typical usage.
  • Software Glitches: Persistent crashes, errors, or problems after software updates.

The important thing to note here is that unlike normal warranties that don’t cover physical damage, this one does. It even extends to covering WATER DAMAGE. That means no matter how your phone is broken, it is covered under the warranty.

Getting your Pixel 5A Fixed:

Here’s what you can do to actually get your Pixel 5A fixed:

  1. Contact Google Support: Reach out to Google’s customer support through the Pixel support page or by calling the designated support number.
  2. Remote Troubleshooting: Google’s support team may guide you through remote troubleshooting steps to identify and potentially fix the issue.
  3. Bring it Into a Certified Repair Shop: If you cannot get it fixed through remote troubleshooting you may have a better solution. If you have an Asurion or uBreakiFix near you they are authorized to repair these phones. Not only that they are well versed on the warranty process.

The Process at our Certified Repair Shop:

When someone brings in a Google Pixel 5A into our shop we know immediately what to do. We first check to make sure we have the parts. All we have are screens that we can replace as Google stopped providing motherboards for repair.

Then we:

  • Conduct a Diagnostic Test: We run the diagnostics that are built in to the Pixel phones and test the hardware. Often times though when we get a 5A it doesn’t even turn on.
  • Coordinate with Google Support: We create the Google warranty claim in our system which creates a ticket with Google. From there we are able to add parts at no cost to the customer as EVERYTHING is covered under the warranty, no questions asked.
  • Attempt to Repair the Device: Like I previously mentioned all we have for repair is screens. I’d have to say about 50% of the repairs we get in are resolved with a new screen, and the other 50% are toasted. When the phone is toasted and we can’t fix it, the next step is for the owner of the phone to get in touch with Google support. I’ve heard that turnaround for a repair/replacement is around 5 business days.
  • Loaner Phones: Depending on the severity of the issue, we can also offer a Google Pixel Loaner device. Each of our shops is provided 3 Pixel 6A loaner phones from Google to lend to the customers while their phones are getting repaired or replaced. However if the phone is damaged the customer is liable for it so some people opt not to get the loaner.

To Sum it All Up:

The Google Pixel 5A extended warranty is really gracious even if it was brought on by a class action lawsuit. It covers so many things on your phone and the repair/replacement options are very quick and seamless.
